Teeth Whitening – what you need to know!

Teeth Whitening – what you need to know!

Investing in a little bit of self-care, especially at this time of year, shouldn’t be limited to hair, skin and nails and at Long Sutton Dentistry we believe that a confident smile can be a huge asset!

Maybe you have a big event coming up, such as a wedding, special anniversary, special birthday or maybe you just fancy a boost in confidence. Why don’t you think about having a home teeth whitening treatment as it’s one of the easiest things to do in your daily routine.

How does it work?

Teeth whitening removes stains and discoloration that have built up over time on your teeth. The outer enamel layer is very thin and prone to stains from foods and drinks such as tea and red wine. Whitening gel bonds to and breaks down the stain molecules which leave your teeth appearing whiter.

What does the treatment entail?

Your dentist will take an impression or scan of your teeth to make a custom moulded tray. It usually takes a couple of weeks for your custom trays to arrive. At your second appointment you will be shown how to pipe the whitening gel into the tray and given instructions on when to wear your trays and how look after them.

Does it hurt?

Our teeth whitening treatments are painless, comfortable and safe however you may experience temporary tooth sensitivity. There are things we can do to reduce this sensitivity and it should go away after your treatment has finished.

How long does it take?

Treatment length varies from person to person – some whiten faster than others and of course it will depend on how white you want the result to be…whether you want a natural, brighter smile or a super model, super white beaming smile!

Your dentist will recommend how long to wear your trays for, and regular check-ups will allow you to keep track of progress.

How long does it last?

The whitening result can last for months or years depending on the quantity of staining foods and drinks you consume and therefore can vary from person to person. Of course, once you have your custom trays it is easy to top up with gel as and when you feel you need to (and gel is easily purchased from the practice when you want it.)

How much does it cost?

At Long Sutton Dentistry, our teeth whitening treatment costs £465.
